Bio

Vernon Hurt was born on February 28, 1923 to John and Naomi Hurt in Wirt, OK. He was the 7th of 8 children. His parents, brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He grew up on an oil lease and graduated from Dundee High School. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served 3 years at Pearl Harbor. He married Kathryn Inman in February 1947. Vernon worked 37 years for Sun Oil Company. He was saved as a young man and served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, R.A. teacher, chairman of personnel committee at Baptist churches. He served as president of PTA, member of Band Boosters and was active in Little League. He is survived by his wife; son, Richard and wife Kathy; granddaughter, Jean, grandson Matt and wife Sally; great-grandsons, Jaylen and Cayleb; great-granddaughter, Kamryn; brothers-in-law, Kenneth, Karroll, Keith and wife Beverly Inman of Oklahoma, Kermit and wife Mary of Deridder, LA; sister-in-law, Norma Hurt of Georgetown, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a celebration of Vernon's life to follow on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pat H. Foley & Company. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Vernon Hurt to Clay Road Baptist Church Project 54, 9151 Clay Rd., Houston, TX 77080.
