Herbert, known as Ward, was born May 28, 1900 in Lorimor, Union Co, Iowa, the son of Albert Allen Adams and Jennie Inez (Pierce) Adams. He was the 2nd of the three children. By 1910 the family had moved to New Hope and Daisy had joined he and his sister, Grace. His father was a "real estate dealer". Shortly before the end of WWI on June 10, 1918 Herbert enlisted in the US Army. He was honorably discharged on February 1, 1919. 1920 finds Ward and three other men as boarders in the farmer, Samuel Anker's home in the Madison Township. Ward was an "agent at a stone quarry". He and the boarders were an interesting group. One was a blacksmith, another a foreman/steam shovel, and the other an engineer. I believe they all worked at the quarry. Later that year, on December 11, 1920, Ward married Viola Gabel in Guthrie, Iowa. She was the daughter of E W and Nina Wiley Gabel. This marriage did not last for unknown reasons. He and Myrtle Louella Adams married sometime after 1930. Myrtle was the daughter of Samuel Jennings and Maude Elizabeth Oviatt Whitehill. In the 1930 Census, Myrtle was living at home and was a stenographer for an auto parts store. They spent the rest of their lives together. It appears they did not have children. Ward preceded Myrtle in death in 1976. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ May your spirit be with the Lord
