Mrs. W. E. Clopton, 90, of Loraine was buried last Sunday in Colorado City Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted in Loraine's Lightfoot Church of Christ with Robert Humphrey, minister of the church officiating. He was assisted by Max Leach of Abilene. Mrs. Clopton died December 24, 1959 in an Odessa hospital after becoming ill that morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Stewart. Mrs. Clopton, the former Maggie Ann Smith was born in Blanco County December 14, 1869. In 1888 she married Walter Edwin Clopton and they moved to Odessa in 1904 to homestead land. They moved to Loraine in 1924. Since Mr. Clopton's death May 30, 1939 she had lived in their home in Loraine. Two sons and one daughter have preceded Mrs. Clopton in death. The sons were Lenn who died at the age of 11 in Odessa and Benjamin who died in January 1957 in Loraine. The daughter was Mrs. Effie Wimberly who died in 1938. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Maud Evans of Fort Worth, Mrs. Gladys Goodman of Sweetwater and Mrs. Stewart of Odessa; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Virgil Wimherley, Hubert Thomas. Luther Anders, Jack Coffee, Jack Brewer and Kirk Taylor. Daughter of John Michael Smith and Betty Tanner Smith.
