From local (probably Claiborne County, Tennessee or Bell County, Kentucky) newspapers about October 21, 1929: 1st article : "Vince Carroll, of East End, was found dead near the mouth of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel, on the Kentucky Side, early this morning, by trainmen, on Number 21. A bullet had entered the man's forehead, and his skull was shattered. A coroner's jury was hurriedly called, and the decision, after careful consideration and examination of the body, and the place where the tragedy occurred, was that of suicide. A rifle was lying near the body, and powder burns on the face indicated that the shot had been at close range. It was reported that Mr. Carroll had been despondent for some time, especially since he had been laid off about five months ago, by the foreman of the L and N section crew, with whom he had been working for some time. Also, it has been stated that he had not appeared to be quite himself at times, which had possibly been due to a blow to the head some months ago, when he had an alteration with another member of the section crew." Partial letter which appears to be pages 2 and 3, missing pages 1 and 4 perhaps, written by William Anderson Drummonds to his step-son Isom Lee Ford. Isom was the son Sibby England Ford Drummonds. Isom's father, Tillman Ford, died on 4 March 1864 while serving in the Civil War. (Page 2) Well Isom I sole (sold) 8 of my sheep. They brought 17 dollars. Two of them come to $2.55 a peace.
