Suggested edit: Obituary. Susanna Hammond Deans. St. George- Funeral services were held here at 5 p.m. Saturday, for Mrs. Susanna Hammond Deans, pioneer of Dixie, who died Friday of ailments incident to age. She was born at Little Cottonwood, Salt lake City, in 1850 and come with her parents to St. George with the first company to arrive in October, 1861; They lived in their wagon and a willow wigwam for the first winter. During her girlhood she experienced the regular trials of the pioneer of southern Utah. In 1868 she was married to James Dean in the Endowment House at Salt Lake City. They made their home in St. George until 1877 when they were called by Brigham Young to go to Woodruff, Ariz. Here they lived 23 years. In 1890 they were released by President Wilford Woodruff and moved into Uinta Basin. In her later life she returned again to this county living with her son at Virgin, Utah. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive. They are David and Mrs. Susie Wardle, Vernal, Utah; Mrs. Nellie Reidhead, Eager, Ariz.; Mrs. Isabell Fullerton, St. George, and Robert, Virgin, Utah. She has also living 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the St. George stake tabernacle and were directed by Bishop Vernon Worthen of the St. George West ward. Contributor: pCarson (48463719) • [email protected]
