St. Petersburg Times 13 Jul 1951 p 16 Mrs. Nona Rowe Mitchell Dies At Lakeland Hospital Mrs. Nona Rowe Mitchell, 64, mother of Paul Mitchell, veterans' columnist for the St. Petersburg Times, died at Morrell Memorial Hospital, Lakeland at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday morning after a short illness. Mrs. Mitchell was the widow of W. T. Mitchell, well known public accountant in Lakeland for 20 years. They were well known in central Florida. Mrs. Mitchell continued her husband's business as a tax expert following his death January 23, 1950. Mrs. Mitchell was admitted to the hospital nine days before she expired. She became ill within a half hour after returning from a two-weeks vacation trip with her relatives in Alabama and Georgia. Funeral arrangements under Gentry-Morrison in Lakeland are being delayed pending arrival of a son from the battlefronts in Korea. Sgt. Arthur James Mitchell, serving with the First Marine Division in Korea, is being flown here on emergency leave. She is survived by a third and oldest son, William Rowe Mitchell, a combat veteran of the Coast Guard who went through four D-Day landings in World War II. Her son, Paul, is currently serving as an Air Force captain at MacDill Air Force Base. Other survivors include a brother, Paul Rowe, Falkville, Ala.; four sisters, Mrs. Lelia Plemons, Mrs. Stella Clark and Mrs. Emily Wiley of Falksville, and Mrs. Lannie Smith of Panama City. Other survivors include three grandsons: Bruce Mitchell, 7, and Walter Mitchell, 3, of St. Petersburg, and William (Billy) Mitchell of Lakeland. Mrs. Mitchell was born in South Alabama and moved to Falkville where she attended a Normal School. Following her marriage she lived in Atlanta, Ga., West Palm Beach and Tampa. The family moved to Lakeland in 1930.
