Jacqueline Ann (Zerzan) Vincent July 15, 1931 ~ November 18, 2009 SALEM ~ With her beloved children by her side, Jacqueline Ann Zerzan Vincent passed away peacefully on November 18, 2009. Born July 15, 1931 in Schuyler, Nebraska, Jackie was the eldest child of John and Lorene Zerzan. When Jackie was nine, the family moved to Oregon, leaving behind a close-knit group of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Though the miles between them were many, a strong sense of family kept their relationships close, and the importance of family became a cornerstone of Jackie's life. After settling with her parents in Salem, Jackie attended grade school at St. Vincent DePaul, and in 1949, graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. Following high school, Jackie attended Marylhurst College in Portland, where she majored in Art, fulfilling a dream she held from an early age. As Jackie's artistic skills blossomed, so did her romance with a young man she first became acquainted with years earlier while working at White's Restaurant in Salem as a teenager. After serving a hitch in the Army and returning to Salem following a brief sojourn to Alaska, Willis Vincent resumed his friendship with Jackie and their courtship began in earnest. Ultimately, he asked her to be his bride, and on December 1, 1951, the couple married and embarked upon a journey they traveled together for the rest of their lives. After brief periods in Albany and Hillsboro, Jackie and Willis, along with sons Mark and Chuck, and daughter Joan, settled in Salem for good.Jackie enjoyed her roles as wife and mother to her young family, and always found ways to express her creative spirit. Whether designing clever Halloween costumes for her children, decorating her home for the holidays, or preparing a well-cooked meal, Jackie's artistic flair was always evident. As her children grew older, Jackie continued her artistic development through her employment outside the home. She worked for Sears in downtown Salem creating window displays, and in the advertising department. Jackie was also employed with the Salem-Keizer School District, where she was an illustrator of educational games and books produced by the district's Resource Department for use in local classrooms. This was an especially rewarding area of work for Jackie. While her talent included calligraphy as well as illustration, after retiring from the school district, Jackie was able to devote more time to developing her skill as a painter. An avid gardener, Jackie took inspiration for many of her delicate watercolors from her own backyard. She also loved spending time on the Oregon coast and enjoyed the challenge of capturing its ephemeral beauty in her paintings. She was a member of the Keizer Art Association, and exhibited her work at the Oregon State Fair for many years. A devout Catholic, Jackie was a faithful member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish. She enjoyed many opportunities in the service of the Lord, using her talents to God's glory in decorating the church for holiday services, and organizing and assisting with special church functions.Through the years, as Jackie's accomplishment as an artist grew, so did her family. The Vincent home was the center for memorable gatherings of brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. They were all marked by Jackie's artful touch, which extended beyond physical manifestations. She had a unique quality of acceptance, and a talent for putting people at ease. Jackie was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and touched the lives of many others in ways we will never know. Jackie lived a life that truly was a work of art. Preceded in death by her brother, James Zerzan, and loving husband of 57 years, Willis, Jackie is survived by brother, John Zerzan (Alice) of Eugene; son, Mark (Karen) of Salem; daughter, Joan Lovett (Rick) of Hillsboro; son, Chuck (Kristy) of Salem; grandchildren, Andrew, Kalinda, Emily, Hannah and Kathryn; nieces, nephews, cousins and Aunt Helen of Omaha. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Memorials in Jackie's name may be made to the Sweet Bye & Bye Adult Foster Care, P.O.
