CAPPS, MATTIE ESTELLE WAGGONER -- Born June 7, 1921, passed away on October 9, 2011, at the glorious age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Arthur Wilson Capps (December 8, 1995), by her parents, William Tennis Waggoner & Cynthia Ida Waggoner Sublett, and her 7 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Arthur and Violet Capps, daughter Cynthia Capps Bowman, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Julie and Gerry John, great grandsons Collin Jae McGrath and Evan Alexander John, grandson Jonathan Capps, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was an avid collector and reader of Cookbooks and, at the age of 78, became accomplished on the computer, preparing occasion cards that amazed and delighted family and friends. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 59 years, including Past Matron of Lucinda Conner Chapter, and member of James Ladd Burgess and Edwin J. Kiest Chapters. In her own words, her "goal in life was to be a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, granny, great granny, and a good friend. She was happiest when she was with her family. She was so proud of them all and hopes and prays that they will remain close and love each other." With the greatest love and admiration, her family deeply believes their beloved Mattie achieved her lifelong goal. She was a Christian and belonged to the Baptist Church since she was 12 years old. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday, October 14, with services at 10 AM, October 15, at Grove Hill Memorial Chapel. Entombment will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park.
