Bio

FORT WORTH - Wilma Barnes, who owned and operated a number of neighborhood department stores with her late husband, died of complications of cancer Tuesday at a Fort Worth nursing home. She was 94. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Barnes and her husband, Roy Barnes, opened the first neighborhood department store, Roy Barnes and Son, in Ridglea on Camp Bowie Boulevard in 1949. They also owned other stores in Weatherford and Cleburne. Roy Barnes died in 1963. Survivors: Daughter, Dorothy Bennett of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) Date: March 4, 1994
