Bio

Wilmer Ernest Crowder was born 2 November 1918 in Hanover, Fergus, Montana. He was the son of Ernest Wilmer Crowder and Mary Estella Willis. Siblings: Alice Vivian Crowder [Cantwell] (1911-2000), Alpha Willis Crowder (1912-1997), Ernestine Lydia Crowder [Bethel] (1915-1995), Aloha Cecil Crowder [Bentley] (1916-1981), Robert Warren Crowder (1921-1989), Milton Haskell Crowder (1926-1933) Bill Eugene Crowder (1928-1989), Kenneth Charles Crowder (1931-2006) and Jewell Crowder [Johnson]. He married Ida June Riley on 1 January 1938 in Worland, Big Horn, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. June and Wilmer were the parents of 3 children. Their first born, a daughter that they named Eloise Wilma Crowder (1943-1943) only lived 3 days. 2 sons came next, Grant Wilmer Crowder was born in 1947 and Thane Crowder completed the family in 1953. In 1957, Wilmer developed a blood clot in his leg that ultimately led to that leg being amputated. After the surgery and rehabilitation to learn how to walk on his new wooden leg, Wilmer went to work doing construction while June supplemented the families income with her skills at tailoring, doing laundry and housekeeping. In 1960 the family moved to Ririe, Jefferson, Idaho where Wilmer worked for a farmer and later obtained work with Madison County. Eventually, Wilmer and June were able to purchase one acre of land in Thornton where they established their home. Wilmer died of a heart attack on 21 March 1982 at his home in Thornton, Madison, Idaho. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Eloise W. Crowder, his sister Aloha Cecil Crowder [Bentley] and a brother, Milton Haskell Crowder.
