Bio

John Moler, native of Adams Co., Ohio, b. Nov 17, 1847, s. of Rev. Andrew Moler, b. Highland County, Ohio, 1824. His great grandfather, Rev. Joseph Moler, came from Germany in 1747. He served as a defender of American interests and at the close of the war found himself in Georgia. Later went to Kentucky, then to Highland Co., Ohio where he died at age of 90. The grandfather was Rev. John Moler, b. Kentucky in Nicholas Co. The father, Rev. Andrew, came to Keokuk Co. in 1864. He m. Martha A. Philips, b. in Ohio 1827, dau. of Asa F. Philips of Maryland. John came with his father to Iowa. Married Nancy M. Myers, a native of Virginia, and dau. of Christian Myers, an early settler of Iowa County. ----- Leonard F. Co., 1911), page 270. * * * * * Montezuma lost one of its leading citizens when John Moler passed away last Sunday morning, following an illness of slightly over a week. He was a successful business man and was always interested in anything that was for the benefit of the community. For six years, beginning in the late nineties, he served with distinction as a member of the county board of supervisors, and he also served on the town council. Hundreds of friends all over the county will learn of his death with sincere regret. ----- Montezuma (IA) Republican, 25 Apr 1918
