Husband of Ludine Davis Smith Married 09/02/1937 ------------------------------------------------------------- Avoca - W. D. Smith, 86, of Avoca, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, at the Avoca Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. Peewee was born March 25, 1918, in Fisher County Texas, to D. L. and Annie B. Smith. He married Ludine Davis on September 2, 1937, in Anson, and they farmed and ranched for over 70 years. He was a member and Deacon of the Avoca Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School from 1941 until 1998. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Ludine Smith of Avoca; 1 son, H. Wayne Smith and wife Mattie of Big Lake, Texas; 1 daughter, Tanis Hager and husband Don of Paris, Texas; 1 daughter-in-law, Patty Smith of Stephenville, Texas; 1 sister, Evelyn Hughes of Avoca; 8 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Fenton Smith, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters. Pallbearers will be Craig Smith, Monty Smith, Brian Smith, Ernie Smith, Eric Smith, and Tommy Lindsey. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Memorials may be sent to the Avoca Baptist Church Building Fund, Avoca, Texas taken from the Abilene Reporter News records
