Coleman Man and Wife Die; Funeral Sunday A Coleman man, Bernice H. Baker, 79, and his wife Mrs. Jesse Smith Baker, 76, were found dead at their home here Friday morning, having been apparently shot to death. Walter Holt, Justice of the Peace , ruled that it appeared that Mr. Baker shot his wife with a 16-gauge shot gun and then shot himself with the same weapon. Funeral services for the two were held at 2:30 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel Sunday, Nov. 12, 1972, and interment was in Coleman City Cemetery under direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Officiating minister was Abe Lincoln of Lubbock. Mr. Baker's pallbearers were G. W. Wilson, T. A. Elliott, Sam Hunter, Kay Anderson, Don Helberg and I.R. Wagnon. Mrs. Baker's were Don L Smith, James D. Smith, Henry Davis, Paul Gillfam, Bennie Porter and Sherrill Tisdale. Mr. Baker, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bethel Baker, was born in Coleman June 17,1893 and his wife, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, was born at Pecan Gap March 7, 1896. They were married at Silver Valley Aug. 30, 1913. A retired farmer, he had lived in Coleman County all of his life. Mrs. Baker, a homemaker, had lived here since 1907. Both were members of the Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Carl Bludworth of Burkett; two sons, Carlton Baker of Coleman and Bobbie Glenn of Burleson; three grand- children and three great-grandchildren.
