J.C. "Curt" Gardner and his parents, four brother's and one sister were one of the first family settler's in southwestern Oklahoma, when it was still indian territory. Curt Gardner was a peace officer and was elected Sheriff of Jefferson County between 1940 and 1944, and served many more year's in law enforcement and for the county. He was also interviewed by the Oklahoma Historical Society and was taped recorded, that tape may be heard at the Chisholm Trail Historical Museum in Waurika, Oklahoma, County of Jefferson, and at the Oklahoma Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.
