Samuel J is a son of James M and Mary (Eliza?) Smith Dicus according to his death certificate. Samuel married Virginia L? Gaskin October 24, 1878, Dade County, MO. He died of Erysipelas?. The informant is Lillie Potter of Everton, MO. Listed as Samuel "M" Dicus in the Civil War records, Samuel, age 16, enlisted as a Private in Company E of the Sixth Missouri Regiment November 1, 1861, Dade County, MO. He was mustered in December 14, 1861, Rolla, MO and was discharged November 1, 1864. The 1900 Dade County, MO Census lists Samuel J Dicus, 54, and wife Virginia, 44, with sons Leslie, 13, and Earl, 6.
