The family surname was spelled as Pelcer and Pelzer. ------------------------------------------------ Pelcer Brought Home Harry E. Pelcer, Atkinson, who had surgery at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha about three weeks ago, was transferred back to Atkinson Memorial Hospital Wednesday. He was accompanied in the ambulance by his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Spence. Mr. and Mrs. Spence had remained in Omaha with Mr. Pelcer, and Mr. Spence returned home Monday. Mrs. Pelcer was in Omaha to visit her husband Sunday and was accompanied by her granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Braun and children, Loretta and Barbara. They also returned home Monday. Pelcer, 75, former owner-operator of a meat market and grocery firm here, died about 8:15 a.m., Monday, April 14, in Atkinson Memorial hospital. Although he had entered the hospital here only a few hours before his death, he had been hospitalized most of the time since February. The late Mr. Pelcer was born December 24, 1882. He was a son of William and Elizabeth Wayman Pelcer. He married Ida Tindall at Tobias December 24, 1904. For a time he operated the Nite & Day cafe and spent many years in the retail food business. He had been retired a number of years. He had been a resident of the community 49 years. The Pelcers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary four years ago. The late Mr. Pelcer was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, at the Methodist church with Rev. Charles Gates, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery under direction of the Seger funeral home. Pallbearers were Ralph Reis, Bernard Blackmore, Claude Humphreys, Richard Findley, L. E. McDowell and Willard Linville. Music was furnished by Mrs. Elaine Schorn and Mrs. Jean Fleming with Mrs. Jay Jungman at the piano. Hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross," and "In the Garden". Survivors include: Widow -- Ida; daughter-- Mrs. C. E. (Anna) Spence of Atkinson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother--Clarence of Chehalis, Wash. Pelcer, 75, who lived 49 years in Atkinson, and was a retired owner of the IGA store in Atkinson, died Monday at the Atkinson Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. from the Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Gates in charge of the services. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery under the direction of Segers. Pallbearers were Bernard Blackmore, Claude Humphreys, Rich Findley, Lloyd McDowell, Willard Linville and Ralph Ries. Mr. Pelcer had been seriously ill for about five weeks. He came to Holt County in 1907 and has lived in Atkinson since that time, operating the IGA store there for many years. He had retired from the grocery business a number of years ago. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. He was born December 24, 1882 at Dewitt, Nebr., the son of William and Elizabeth Wayman Pelcer. He was united in marriage to Ida Tindall at Tobias, Nebr. on December 24, 1904. Born to this union was one daughter, Anna. Survivors are his wife, Ida, one daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Anna) Spence of Atkinson; brother, Clarence of Chehalis, Wn., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pelcer, 75, retired Atkinson businessman and farm operator, died early Monday, April 14, at the Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pelcer had been a resident of this community for nearly 50 years. He and Mrs. Pelcer owned and operated the widely-known Nite & Day Cafe for 19 years, and he later purchased a local meat market which became the Pelcer & Spence IGA Store and is now owned by his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Spence. He retired from business activity about 12 years ago. Mr. Pelcer entered the local hospital Sunday, only a short time before his death, but he had been critically ill for several weeks and had been hospitalized most of the time since the latter part of February, when he submitted to surgery in an Omaha Hospital. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Charles H. Gates conducted the rites. Two hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden," were sung by Mrs. Wm. Schorn and Mrs. Dean Fleming, accompanied by Mrs. Jay Jungman. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. The pallbearers were Ralph Ries, Bernard Blackmore, L. E. McDowell, Claude F. Humphreys, R. A. Findley and Mayor Willard S. Linville. Local business places were closed during the funeral hour. Harry E. Pelcer, son of William and Elizabeth Wayman Pelcer, was born December 24, 1882, at DeWitt, Neb. When he was five years old, the family moved to Tobias where he grew up and as a young man was associated with his father in the operation of a meat market. He was married to Ida E. Tindall on his 22nd birthday, Dec. 24, 1904, at Tobias. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary four years ago at their home in Atkinson. The Pelcers moved to this community in 1909 and for several years lived on a farm in Green Valley, southwest of Atkinson. Later they moved to town and for 19 years owned and operated the Nite & Day Cafe (now Glenn's Cafe.) After selling the cafe, Mr. Pelcer purchased a local meat market. Clyde Babcock, now of Boulder, Colo., assisted him in operating the business for a short time, and then Mr. Pelcer's son-in-law, C. E. Spence, joined him in a partnership which became the Pelcer & Spence Market. The partnership continued until about 12 years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Spence became owners of the business. Two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pelcer, Anna Fern (Mrs. C. E. Spence) and Katherine Fay who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Ida E.; daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Anna F.) Spence; three grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Helen) Braun of Atkinson, Gary Spence of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dennis Spence, at home; two great grandchildren, Barbara and Loretta Faye Braun; one brother, Clarence Pelcer, of Chehalis, Wash. He was a member of Atkinson Lodge No. 111, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Pelcer's mother, Elizabeth Pelcer, died here in August, 1956, at the age of 94 years. Relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Schmohr, Mrs. Lizzie Nickel, Mrs. Ed Wayman, Mrs. Jennie Hershiser, Mrs. Leo Laible and Jack Murphy, all of O'Neill.
