Douglas Ray Nielsen, 86, of Cheyenne Wyo., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Duuglas was born April 7, 1925, in Omaha, and had lived in Cheyenne since 1962. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle on July 5, 2003, whom he married Jan. 10, 1947, in St. Paul. Douglas is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Sally and David Woods of Cheyenne, Wyo., granddaughters and their spouses, Terri and Don Jones of Orlando, Fla., and Kelly and James Courtney of Loveland, Colo., sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jim McElroy of Colorado. Douglas was also preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Josephine Nielsen, and brother, Eudell Nielsen. Douglas worked as a salesman for Hill Bros Coffee until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion in St. Paul, Methodist Church and played in the Senior Golf Tournaments at the Airport Golf Course. Douglas served in the United States Army during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Douglas was an avid golfer and Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and was very proud of his old 1949 truck that he had restored. Burial of ashes was in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on September 14, 2011
