Bio

SGT US ARMY ∼ Douglas MacArthur Kiggans Sr., 60, Sarasota and formerly of Palmetto, died Oct. 31, 2002. He was born Feb. 20, 1942, in Dart, Ohio, and came to Sarasota in 1984 from Marietta, Ohio. In 1994 he moved to Palmetto and returned to Sarasota in 1997. He retired as an electrician and carpenter for Doctors Hospital in Sarasota. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1962, earning the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Bradenton. Survivors include his wife, Pam; his mother, Sarah of St. Petersburg; daughters Missy Rickard of Naples, Italy, and Heidi Scolaro of Venice; a son, Douglas M. II of Bradenton; sisters Ruth Blundell of Murphy, N.C., Ethel Hopp of Lowell, Ohio, and Lena Morgenstern of Lower Salem, Ohio; brothers Sam of Lowell, Earl of Clover, S.C., and Jake of Frostproof; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes, 26th Street Chapel, Bradenton. Inurnment with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
