Funeral services for Dennis M. "Doc" Reed, DVM, age 64 of Mount Vernon, were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. Burial was in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Rev. Jack Wallace and Rev. Pete Adrian officiating. "Doc" Reed was born Nov. 14, 1946 in Pampa, Tex. to Lyndon "Sonny" and Melba Spruell Reed. He was married to Gail Scroggins Reed. He graduated from Talco High School in 1965 and from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. He opened Reed Veterinary Clinic in Mount Vernon in 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. He died Monday, Sept. 12 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gail Scroggins Reed of Mount Vernon; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Meredith Reed of Mount Vernon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Clint Calvert of Grandview, Robin and Steve Simmons of Leesburg, and Keely and Bryan Sheets of Mount Pleasant; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Scroggins of Mount Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, Lyndon "Pinky" and Rita Reed of Quitman; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were Waymon Newsome, B. J. Moore, Archie Hayley, Jimmy Aiken, Jerry Skidmore, and Andy Carpenter.
