Services for William E. Danekas were held December 27 in a mortuary at San Diego, California, with the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 9 officiating. Burial services were held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, with the Naval Training Center burial and Firing Squadrons in charge. William Edwin Danekas was born at Crete, Nebraska, on December 9, 1919, and died of a heart attack on December 1, 1955, while serving aboard the U.S.S. Point Cruz at sea. He attended school at Milford and joined the service in January 1937. He served aboard the U.S.S. Maryland; destroyers Hollister, Craig, Turner, Blue, and Bush. Chief Petty Officer Danekas was aboard the Blue at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked and later sunk at Guadalcanal; he was also a survivor of the sinking of the Bush near Okinawa; he served in all the major battles in the Pacific. His shore duty was at the Naval Training Center in San Diego with the Provost Marshall's office; following this he went aboard the Point Cruz. He was married on June 3, 1945 to Frances Mooberry. Besides his wife and children, Kay Louise, Judy Leone, and Danny Martin, he is survived by his parents, Mr.. and Mrs. John H. Danekas; half brother, John C. Danekas and half sister, Marilyn Danekas Gammel (Willard) of Crete, grandmothers, Louisa Danekas and Alice Miller. His birth mother, Sarah Miller Danekas preceded him in death in 1925 from diabetic complications which had gone undiagnosed until it was too late to save her.
