Kress, 67, died at home Monday, June 26, 1995 in San Jose, California from a valiant three-year battle with cancer. He was born June 8, 1928 in American Falls, Idaho to Henry and Ella Gross Kress. His parents came form Indiana, homesteading in the Roy, Idaho area. He was the youngest of three boys. He attended a one-room school in Landing, and graduated from American Falls High School. As a youth he worked in the fields on the family ranch and dry farm, where they raised wheat, barley, and cattle for grazing. His entertainment was in playing cards, such as pinochle with his family, and listening to the radio. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed. Lloyd met Joyce on a blind date while in high school. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1946. He served as a gunner mortar in Korea. Lloyd married Joyce Duffin in November 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church. While attending Idaho State University and living on campus two of their three children, Richard and Nancy, were born. Lloyd began his career at FMC in 1951 at the Westvaco Chemical Division, since renamed the Agricultural Chemical Division, in Pocatello. He began as a laborer hauling precipitator dust from the phosphorus processing area, and later in the store rooms while attending ISU. He was active in the union in Pocatello and served as treasurer. After he graduated from ISU with a business administration degree he worked in the accounting department in Pocatello until 1953, when they moved to San Jose, California. While at FMC he had worked as a division controller in Charleston, West Virginia, accounting manager at the Link Belt Chain Division in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Marine Rail Equipment division in Portland, Oregon, and in Proposals and Negotiations in San Jose, California over the Bradley fighting vehicle systems, negotiating billions of dollars in contracts. He retired in 1992 after working 41 years with FMC. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Joyce Duffin Kress of San Jose, California; one son, Richard Lloyd Kress of American Falls; two daughters, Nancy Kress (Bruce) Dastrup of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Linda K. (George) Monninger of Terre Haute, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur (Helen) Kress of Roy, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harry and Raymond Kress. The graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 1995 at Fallsview Cemetery, American Falls, with Nathan Hanson, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating.
