Bio

2nd wife of Robert Samuel Scobee. Daughter and 5th child of John Turnmire and Martha "Patsy" Pickett. She and Robert Scobee met when she was on trial for murdering her infant and Bob was on the jury. It was claimed that she gave birth in the barn when she was young and unmarried, and to get rid of the child, she covered it with manure. It is unknown if the child was born alive or dead, but she stood trial and was acquitted. UNIONVILLE REPUBLICAN Feb 15, 1933 EVA MARGARET SCOBEE Eva Margaret TURNMIRE was born April 1, 1868, departed this life being 64 years, 10 months and 11 days. She was united in marriage to Samuel Robert SCOBEE in 1887, who preceded her in death five years ago. To this union seven children were born: Earnie Scobee, at Kahoka, Mo.; Zetta (deceased); Mrs. W.R. Banning of Des Moines, Iowa; Dewey Scobee of Elmira, Mo.; Fred Scobee, of Unionville, Mo.; Mrs. Dane Shaver, of Unionville, Mo. She has fourteen grand children and three sisters: Mandy Burchett, of Seymour, Iowa; Bettie Montgomery, of Worthington, Mo.; and Martha Ledford, of Blakesburg, Iowa; one aunt, near Hartford, Mrs. Martha Gilla. She leaves to mourn her departure: children, grand children and a host of near relatives and friends. She was a loving mother, kind and loving to all who knew her. She became a Christian several years ago and remained true until death. She bore all her sufferings with patience. Services were conducted at the home by Martin Wiles at 12:00. Interment was made in the Cox Cemetery.
