Bio

Lillian G. Kassmeier, age 82, of Hooper, NE died Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Hooper Care Center. She was born August 9, 1929 in Schuyler, NE to Adolph and Anna (Maca) Vavricek. She grew up in Schuyler and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1947. Lillian Vavricek married Alfred F. Kassmeier September 14, 1950 in Schuyler. He died January 1989. Lillian lived on a farm at Dodge and Schuyler and moved to Hooper in March 1960 when she and her husband bought the John Deere Dealership. She was a bookkeeper for Kassmeier Implement and later Green Valley Implement. She loved gardening and raising flowers. Lillian was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper. She was church organist for approximately 27 years. She held several offices for the church women's guild, including the presidency several times, and committee member for the St. Rose annual turkey dinner. The last office she held, at the age of 80, was as co-chair for the dinner. She was a member of the Smiles Group and was Fremont 4-H Queen in 1947. Lillian spent countless hours tending to her showcase lawn and flower garden and she loved to spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include sons – Glen and wife Dee Kassmeier of Hooper, NE and Allan and wife Pat Kassmeier of Fremont; daughters – Gerri and husband Joe Means of Fremont, NE and Verleen and husband Rowney Jensen of Lincoln, NE; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Alfred; 1 brother – Adolph Vavricek, Jr.; 2 sisters – Agnes Prokes and infant, Annie Vavricek; and 1 great grandson – Hudson Means. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 1st at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper, NE. Father Damien Wee, Father Mike Eckley and Father Vitalis E. Anyanike will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-8 P.M. with family receiving friends 5-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service/Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue Thursday one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the family for several funds yet to be established.
