Occupation: Farmer MO d/c 23335 PROMINENT MAN BURIED AT BETHEL SUNDAY Funeral services for William S. Hume, a long time citizen of this county, who died July 30th at the age of 86, at his home in Rutledge were held at the Bethel Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, and were conducted by Rev. P. M. Lind. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery. "Uncle Billie" as he was familiarly known in that section will be greatly missed. William Sylvester Hume was born in Marion county, West Virginia, September 7th, 1840. On January 16th, 1865 he was married to Mary Virginia Glenn, of Taylor county, West To this union eleven children were born; eight of which still survive, him, also 14 grandchildren six great grand children. Three children preceded him to the great beyond, James A., Lora Linden and Rachel E. The living, are Charles C., of Berkley, Calif.; Joseph E.. and Mary Lee of Rutledge: Mrs. R. D. Witt, Dr. J. D. Hume, of Alamogorda. New Mexico; Mrs. T. Finely, Washington: Thomas W. and Roy R., of Gooding, Idaho. In 1868, he with wife and two eldest children removed from Taylor County to Knox County, Mo.. where they resided until he purchased the old home farm four miles north west of Rutledge. He retired from active farm duties some 14, years ago purchasing a residence in Rutledge at which place he died. He was a man of excellent business qualifications, endowed with strong convictions for that which was right in dealing with his fellow man; having at times the best interest of the community at taking an active interest in politics, education and all matters pertaining to the uplift of society He was possessed of an unyielding determination to overcome and surmount the difficulties that confronted him.
