Hillsboro Reporter Thursday, June 12, 2003 DUVAL FALKNER Duval (Granny) Falkner, 102, of Hillsboro died Monday, June 9, at a local hospital. She was born June 24, 1900 in Minglewood, Tennessee, daughter of the late Dennis Carroll and Emma Alice Lassiter Peacock, and grew up in Texas in the Yates community of Hill County. She returned to Tennessee in 1919, moving back to Texas after her marriage to Rease W. Falkner August 17, 1919. She was a childcare provider for over 50 years, retiring in 1997, and a member of Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband March 8, 1957; two sons, Ralph Falkner and J. C. Falkner; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include: three children, Thomas Falkner and wife, Mary Lou, and Frieda McElfresh and husband, Donald, all of Hillsboro and Evelyn Hamrick and husband, Bill, of Aquilla; one sister, Opal Miller of Whitney; one sister-in-law; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Steve Vaughan officiating. Burial was at Peoria Cemetery.
