Bio

Marvin W. Havelka, 73, passed away on August 27, 2011. Marvin was born to Joseph D. and Angeline Book on November 11, 1937 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He married Mary Lynn Kellum on November 11, 1959 in Taft, Texas. Marvin graduated from Taft High School in 1956 and soon after joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and played solo baritone for the 142nd Armored Division Band. In 1961 he was recalled during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Peregrine Society of St. Joseph Church, and Knights of Columbus Council #1653. He retired from Reynolds Metal Company in 1995 after 37 years and moved to Blanconia, Texas where he raised longhorn cattle and was an active member of Texas Longhorn Breeders Association. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Mary Lynn Havelka of Blanconia, Texas; daughter, Nova Lynn and Dr. Richard Montgomery of Huntsville, Texas; son, Miles E. Havelka and Shiela Scioneaux of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Brittany Nikole Montgomery of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Colton Barnett Havelka of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Angeline Floerke of Taft, Texas; brother, A.J. Havelka of Taft, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Angeline Havelka, and three brothers, Joe H. Havelka, Louis V. Havelka, and Herman Havelka. Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Galloway & Sons Chapel with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Donohoe and Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Paterson, Jim Wither, Joe Adams, Jr., Clark Havis, Harry Sanchez, Paul Matula, Ralph Olivares, and Mike Munoz. Honorary pallbearers will be members of St. Peregrine Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council #1653
