FORT WORTH - George Koenig Jr., 74, a retired aeronautical engineer, died Thursday, July 3, 1997, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: Tabernacle Lodge No. 1195 AF&AM, or a charity of choice. Mr. Koenig was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Waelder, son of George and Eddye Tomlinson Koenig. He married Dorothy Louise Mason on April 27, 1946, in Fort Worth. George and Dorothy moved to Fort Worth, where he worked for General Dynamics for 27 years in aeronautical engineering. Dorothy and George joined Englewood Methodist Church in 1948, where he served as the first president of the Men's Club and also worked on various committees. George and Dorothy were members there for 22 years before transferring their membership to Wedgewood Methodist Church. Later, they joined Westcliff Methodist Church, where they were still members. George was a member of the Friendship Class, Men's Club and was active in various church activities. George was truly an exemplary Mason. His Masonic career began in 1956 as a member of Tabernacle Lodge No. 1195. As Worshipful Master during 1986 and 1987, his goal setting gained him the respect of Masons throughout the 64th District. He served as High Priest and Thrice Illustrious Master of Hemphill Heights Chapter and Council. He received the Super Excellent Master degree and received the Order of High Priesthood and Order of the Silver Trowel awards. George was also a member of Southside Commandery No. 83 and Moslah Shrine. As a 32nd-degree Mason and charter member of Fort Worth Valley Scottish Rite, he worked on the 24, 29, and 31st-degree team. George was given the Golden Trowel Award by Tabernacle Lodge No. 1195 in 1992. He also served as Worthy Patron of Polytechnic Chapter No. 420, OES. He was Chapter Dad of Handley Chapter Order of Demolay and was Governor of District 7 Order of Demolay. George served his country with honors during World War II in the European Theater. As a member of the Ninth Air Force, 881 Air Engineering Squadron, he was stationed in England, France and Germany, where he attained the rank of technical sergeant. George served from 1942 to 1946. Koenig of Fort Worth; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Pam Koenig of Fort Worth, Don Koenig of Franklin, Tenn. and Norman and Lisa Koenig of Saginaw; daughters and sons-in-law, Dona and Ron Ernst of Watauga and Doris Smith of Fort Worth; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Charlene Koenig of California, and Laurence and Jean Koenig of Hempstead; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
