Bio

Von H. Dent, formerly of Heber Springs, AR., died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011. "It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father." Mr. Dent was born Nov. 7, 1922, at Imboden, AR., and was raised in Marked Tree. He married Dorthia A. Ezell on Dec. 29, 1947. Mr. Dent served his country for 28 years and was a veteran of three foreign wars — World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a Shelby County deputy sheriff for a brief period and then was employed as a postal police officer with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Gosnell Baptist Church and in addition was a life member of Okinawa Masonic Lodge No. 118, the Scimitar Shrine Center and the Scottish Rite and National Rifle Association in Little Rock. Von was the last member of his family of eight. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Dorthia Ezell Dent. He is survived by: daughters, Glenda Avery (Kelley), Paula Bethany (R.C.) and Debra Sullivan (Brooks), and son, Michael Dent (Pat); granddaughter, Tonya Gray-Paul (Aaron); as well as 10 more grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was adored by his family who loved him devotedly. "Von graced our life with his free-wheeling manner and will be missed." Memorial contributions in Von's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital Burn Center. Services were at Forest Hill East Funeral Home in Memphis. Burial was in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
