Bio

Obituary in The Bienville Democrat March 10, 1983: Funeral services for Melton F. Courtney, 94, a native and lifetime resident of Mt. lebanon were held at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church March 8, with the Rev. Larry Joyner officiating. Burial was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Conger's Funeral Home of Arcadia. Mr. Courtney was a retired farmer. He died March 6 in Ruston. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara C. Land of Ruston and Mrs. Mary Alma Brymer of New Orleans; two sons, Edwin and Jack Courtney of Alexandria and Natchez, respectively; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Letha Levins Courtney. Mr. Courtney had been a deacon in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church for 60 years and was a former Mt. Lebanon Town Council member. He was active in the administration of the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery until his retirement at the age of 92. He was a member of the Gibsland Lions Club and an avid sportsman. Pallbearers were Levins Thompson, Jim Willis, Henry Nolte, Pete Lyles, Joe Colvin, and Ben Welch. Obituary contributed by Sue Johnson.
