Bio

Lennicx Alex Lennicx died peacefully in the presence of family and friends on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011. A mass celebrating his long and full life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Robertsdale with Father Pat Madden officiating. Family visitation will be held at Mack Funeral Home beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug.19. A private graveside service will follow at Baldwin Memorial Cemetery with Mack Funeral Home directing. Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made in his memory to St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he was faithful member. Mr. Lennicx was born on Jan. 10, 1919 in Loxley. His parents, Alexander and Annie Lennicx were immigrants from the Russian Ukraine. Alex married the love of his life, Martha Merchant in 1938, and they had four daughters and two sons. Mr. Lennicx had many productive years as a building contractor in Baldwin County. Most of his work was done in the Gulf Shores area before the boom of the tourist industry. In those days, the Gulf Coast was a visual paradise. He built some of the earliest motels and churches on the beach, including the "Seahorse" and "Whitecaps." He thoroughly enjoyed 30 years of retirement in Robertsdale. He particularly enjoyed fishing, launching and trailering his small boat, without help, for many years. His family will never forget his time spent as caregiver for their beloved mother, Martha, who died in 1998 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He developed a late interest in ballroom dancing and until recently was chairman of the bimonthly Robertsdale Senior PZK dances. Family and friends will fondly recall his humor and personality and quick wit that made instant friends if new acquaintances. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Lennicx was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Annie Lennicx and his wife, Martha Merchant Lennicx. Siblings who preceded were two brothers George and Mike Lennicx and a sister Ethyl Crandell. Surviving relatives include one sister Mary Fincher of Loxley; two sons, Dr. Milton Lennicx (Claudia) Dothan, Ala. and their son, Dr. Paul Lennicx (Denise) Dothan, William "Bill" Lennicx (Donna) Gulf Shores, and their two children, Page Dixon (David) Tallahassee, Fla. and Michael Lennicx of New York City; four daughters, Adeline Underwood (Glenn) Gulf Shores, and her sons Jim Taylor (Michelle) San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Scott Taylor (Suzette) Gulf Shores, Dr. Mark Taylor (Marilyn) Mobile, Myrna Edmondson and her children Christie, Gulf Shores and Stephen (Trina) South Carolina, Carolyn Fowler (Vann) Robertsdale, and their children Jenna, Justin and Jordan; Nina Linton, Gulf Shores and her children Alexandra and Aaron. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express gratitude to a special friend of Mr. Lennicx, Ms. Deloris Krchak for her loving support and care. A heartfelt thank you to Community Hospice nurses (led by Pam Robertson) and sitters for their compassion and care. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandsons of Mr. Lennicx.
