Harper Dies At Caddo Mills; Rites Tomorrow A heart attack which he suffered at his home shortly before last midnight was fatal to J.A. Harper, 63, prominent Caddo Mills business man and one of the best-known citizens of this section of the State. Mr. Harper was a former mayor of Caddo Mills. Funeral services will be held at the Caddo Mills Methodist Church Thursday at 2 o'clock p. m., with Rev. D. L. Egger of Caddo Mills; Rev. James Riley of Caddo Mills and Rev. C. B. Williams of Wichita Falls, officiating. Burial will be in the Parksdale cemetery at Ar1lington. Pallbearers will be: Earl Fagg, Buel Bentley, W.F. Saunders, Dewey Copeland, Harry Royce, Bruce Newman, all of Caddo Mills; W.F. Stinson and Tom Bailey of Greenville. A native of Madison County, Ala., James Andrew Harper was born on Feb. 24, 1881. He came to Texas when he was a child and located at Arlington. About 35 years ago he moved to Caddo Mills where he had since made his home. Mr. Harper had long been one of the leading cotton and grain dealers in Hunt county and was widely known for his activity in this connection. He was pointed to as a man whose word was as good as his bond and those who had busines contacts with him considered him to be dependable in every respect. Keenly interested in the progress of his community, Mr. Harper devoted much of his time to the furtherance of civic enterprise and his leadership was largely responsible for the success of numerous undertakings for the benefit of Caddo Mills. He achieved an outstanding record during his tenure as mayor of Caddo Mills. A conscientious Christian, he had been a member of the Caddo Mills Methodist Church 25 years and closely followed its tenets. At all times did he stand ready and willing to be of assistance in the furtherance of religious programs. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. In 1918 he was married to Carrie Swain and she survives together with two brothers, Lon Harper of Grand Prairie and Will Harper of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Collier of Dallas, Mrs. Lula Taylor of Dallas and Mrs. Alice Gooden of California.
