Husband of Pasha Audrey "Pat" Johnson Smith. An author and Genealogist of the HEDGER and Smith Families. Pat's notes give Donald's birth town as Spruce Bluff. Don is a housing contractor and ironworker. In 1982 he designed a house to Pat's specifications and they completed building it in 1984. In recent years Don has become known for the large, delicious strawberries he has developed. He operates a U-Pick and markets to several large buyers. Don also developed the SMITH-X watermelon, some weighing over 90 lbs. He is also and orchardist, a profession followed by both sides of his family. News Obit: Donald Lester Smith Donald Lester Smith, 74, of the Sunnyside area, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1992 at his home. He was born June 20, 1917 at Spruce Bluff, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Ella (Dull) and Wilbur Roy Smith. Don descended from the earliest pioneer families in Oregon and Washington.
