Orene G. Schweinle Jordan of Van Vleck, Texas was called to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 103. She was truly one of God's miracles and lived her entire life with the unshakable belief that He was always by her side. She set a lasting example of how one's life should be lived with courage, humility, integrity, honesty, friendship, hard work and love of family. Her inspired spirit could never be broken. Those of us who knew and loved her are better for her memory. Orene was born on December 4, 1905 to Emma Emelia Mueller and William Louie Schweinle on a farm five miles north of Huffsmith, Texas. She was a part of what has been called "the greatest generation" and lived to see this country develop from a horse and wagon technology to hero's walking on the face of the moon. She believed that all things were possible through preparation, hard work and faith in God. That belief sustained her for over 100 years. Her memory never faded and details of her life remained as fresh in her mind as if they happened yesterday. She wrote her life story in longhand at age 97 and all who read it found it to be remarkable. She set life's examples for the generations of her family who will follow her. Her special interests were many and she never attempted anything she couldn't do. She was an outstanding seamstress and for years she made most of her families clothes. She was self taught and developed a strong understanding of accounting, ranching, construction, real estate and politics. She started and became an accomplished artist after her 80th birthday. She was a partner in business and ranching with her husband, William G. Jordan, who pre-deceased her in 1991 at age 92. More than anything else, she was an outstanding mother to her two children, Shirley Jordan Flanagan and Don D. Jordan. In addition to her parents, Orene was preceded in death by five of her six brothers and sisters including Theodore G. Schweinle, William E. Schweinle, Albert A. Schweinle, Andrew R. Schweinle and Edna A. McKinnon and her son-in-law, William S. Flanagan. She is survived by: her sister, Dana Scholl, her daughter, Shirley A. Flanagan, son Don D. Jordan and wife, Barbara, grandchildren Mark Flanagan and wife, Tracy, Mike Flanagan and wife, Beatrice, Monte Flanagan, Leslie Hazlewood and husband, Gary, Lisa Cunningham and husband, Chris and Laura McNear and husband, Steve. She has provided memories to her great-grandchildren, Jeremy Flanagan, Michael Flanagan, Tara Hazlewood, Taylor Hazlewood, Tyler Hazlewood, Carley Cunningham, Kyle Cunningham, and Christopher Cunningham that will sustain them throughout their lives. The family recognizes with deep appreciation and gratitude the outstanding care provided to Orene over the past few months by Tracy Flanagan, Charita Preston, Iris Diaz, Laura Diaz and Sylvia Galindo. Memorial services in celebration of Orene's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Bay City Tribune, Published July 8, 2009
