Mary Ann Schaper, 71, of Texas City passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at her residence. Mary Ann was born June 30, 1931 in Luling, Texas, graduated from Taylor High School She attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University) in 1952. She then completed a dietetic internship at Barns Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Following her internship, she was employed at UTMB as a clinical dietitian. She married Carl Schaper in 1956 and moved to Texas City where she was active in the community for many years. They had three children Patricia, David and Stacie. She is survived by her husband, of 47 years, Carl; daughter Patricia and grandson Chipp Schwab, Clear Lake; daughter Stacie and husband Steve McCans and grandchildren Jake Archer,Hunter McCans, Bailey McCans and Mandy McCans of Ft. Worth; Mary Ann is also survived by Almeda (Nick) and husband James Roop and brother William and wife Loretta Kelldorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, son David and granddaughter Courtney Schwab. Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, in Texas City, with burial to follow at Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock. Pallbearers will be Wayne Schaper, Donnie Schaper, Pat Schaper, Herbie Thayer, Jim Roop and Joe King.
