Bio

Emanuel "Toby" Hosek, 85, of Sargent died on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. Toby was born on April 19, 1926, in Sargent to Joseph and Agnes (Hejsek) Hosek. Survivors are: nephews, Mike McGahan of Grand Island and Tim McGahan of Omaha; nieces, Patty Millis of Crystal Lake, Ill., Cindy Schneider of Grand Island, Liz Bartunek of Hastings and Fran Petersen of Omaha and a host of relatives and friends. Toby graduated from Sargent High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, he worked as a bookkeeper in South Dakota for 33 years, returning to Sargent upon retiring. Toby enjoyed flying planes as a hobby as well as building model airplanes. He enjoyed playing the accordion all his life. Toby was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joseph, Emil, Anne and Mary Hosek, Agnes Hollingsworth and Emma McGahan. Published in The Grand Island Independent on August 5, 2011
