Bio

Millie Ellen (Lindsey) Wiesen passed away Friday, January 4, 1974, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a resident of the area for 30 years. She was born Feb 10, 1897, to J. Monroe and Susan Ann (Coleman) Lindsey. Millie was united in marriage to Charlie Wiesen Dec 20, 1922, at Browning Baptist Church near Kempner, TX with the Rev. Ellis Cooke performing the ceremony. She was a member of Browning Missionary Baptist Church until 1939 when she was baptized into Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Killeen. After her husband's death in 1937, Millie continued to farm and support her four children. In the summer of 1944, the family moved to Port Arthur, TX for her sons to get jobs at one of the refineries. They traveled from Killeen to Port Arthur by train. Millie worked at Woolworths Department Store in downtown Port Arthur as a salesclerk in the housewares department for about 18 years. She attended Central Baptist Church until 1952 when she joined Paradise Primitive Baptist Church in Port Neches. She maintained membership there until her passing. Millie enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, her pug dogs, Susie and Pepper, watching "As the World Turns" and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, baby boy Barney Gale, two brothers: J. M. "Jim" Lindsey and W. W. "Bill" Lindsey and one sister, Mary Virginia Mitchell. She is survived by two sons, Charles M. Wiesen (Della) of Beaumont and Emmett G. Wiesen (Dixie) of Port Arthur; two daughters, Christell Busch (John C.) of Nederland and Faye Thibodeaux (James W.) of Houston; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition, three sisters: Lee Orah Bishop of Killeen, Annie Bishop of Amarillo, and Ruth Walker also of Killeen. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Services were held Saturday at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Elder Woodrow Wilson as officiant. Graveside services were held Sunday at 2pm at Copperas Cove City Cemetery with Elder Paul McLain of Killeen Primitive Baptist Church officiating.
