Bio

Published: August 3, 2011 in the journal-spectator Delores Ann Hinckley passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at the age of 72. She was born on Dec. 28, 1938 to Frank and Martha Prokop Dirba in Liberty. The family lived in East Gate and when Delores grew old enough to go to second grade, they moved to the Crescent area outside of El Campo. As a child, Delores went to school in Crescent where she graduated in 1957. In spite of complications from childhood polio, Delores went on to get her driver's license and furthered her education by attending Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston where she received a degree in secondary education. She eventually obtained an RHit degree in medical information. After 35 years of employment in the medical records department of Gulf Coast Medical Center, she took early retirement following surgery for a brain tumor. She received the Employee of the Month Award during her service at GCMC and served on the Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities. Delores lived in Wharton after her marriage to Cyril J. Hinckley. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Dirba and Frances Beran; and a brother, Jerry Dirba. Survivors include her sister, Irene Cerny of El Campo; and a brother, Charlie Dirba of Lake Jackson. Her step-children, also surviving here are, Julian and Cheryl Hinckley, Sam Hinckley and Mary and David Hebert; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and friends survive as well. She is also survived by a very special friend, Tina Jarvela, Jake and Ryley's mother, who treated Delores more like a mother than a friend. Delores considered Jake and Ryley her grandchildren as well. In spite of many set backs and physical complications, Delores lived a fruitful life, striving to imitate her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "She was an example for all of us by the way in which she lived. She ran the race, finished the course and has received her reward." A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating and Rev. Henry C. Rachunek assisting. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Cerny, Milton Rod, Ronnie Blair, Sam Cerny, Jake Jarvela, Anthony Jarvela, Kyle Shoppa, Dr. Lowell Miller and all former and current doctors, nurses and staff of Gulf Coast Medical Center.
