From "The Giltner Gazette", Giltner, Nebraska dated Thursday, October 1, 1925, Page 1: OBITUARY Howard E. Carter, son of Elward M. and Hannah L. Carter, was born near Giltner, Nebraska, July 1, 1888, and passed away September 25, 1925, at the Swedish Mission Hospital in Omaha, aged 37 years, 2 months and 24 days. He gew to young manhood near Giltner. He was united in marriage to Ruby Marlow September 27, 1911. To this union two children, Glenda age 11 and Geraldine age 3, were born. He was in business in Giltner, in 1914 and also farmed near Giltner until the spring of 1922 when he moved to Omaha. While in Omaha he worked in the Southern Pacific shops, and later he was a motorman on a street car until five weeks ago when he took sick. He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Ruby Carter, his two children, his father, Edward M. Carter, and step-mother, Margaret Carter of Grand Island, two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Lee of Doniphan, Mrs. Nancy Bannister of Juniata, four brothers, Philip and Wesley of Giltner, Edward of Aurora and Skiler of Juniata. His mother preceded him in death in July, 1923. Besides them he leaves other relatives and a host of friends who will be sorry to hear of his death, and who will sympathize with the family in their sorrow. Funeral services were held at the Giltner Christian church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday and burial was made in Lerton cemetery. Virgil Sly, pastor of the Christian church, conducted the services, and Louise Chapman, Mrs. P. O. Marvel, C. E. Dawson and C. F. Felman sang. J. R. Millsap, W. R. Croxen, G. C. Jackett, W. E. Rawlings, O. F. McDannel and Dave Williams were pall bearers.
