Bio

LESTER DANIEL CARTER passed from this life Monday, March 31, 2003. He was born June 6, 1915. He was educated at St. Mary's Academy and Nixon's Business College, both in Palestine, Texas, and attended the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. He passed the Certified Public Accountant examination August 1, 1949 and was awarded Texas CPA certificate #1848. Prior to entering the practice of public accounting, he served four years with the U.S. Navy Cost Inspection Service and was recognized for his service after the Texas City disaster. He practiced certified public accounting for 51 years, the majority of the time in his own firm in Houston. In 1935, he married Eva Katherine Fluellen, who preceded him in death and by whom he had four children, who survive him. They are Sylvia Louise Carter Peebus, John Stephen Carter, Richard Carter, and Mary Elizabeth Carter Race. Lester is also survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Eva Kapchinski Carter, whom he married June 1, 1957. Eva legally adopted Stephen, Richard and Elizabeth and became their loving and devoted mother. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Maurice Carter; sisters, Marjorie Jane Carter Alexander and Ruby Carter Alexander; and a former brother-in-law, Reilly Fluellen. Lester was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Louise Walker and Alice Carter and brothers Albert W. Carter, Jr. and Robert Carter and Sister Mary Joseph Louise Fluellen, a sister-in-law. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brookside Funeral Home-Champions. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3rd at St. James the Apostle, 22800 Aldine-Westfield. Father Eugene Chakkalakal, celebrant.
