w/o Jacob Quickle Carpenter. Married on Nov 2, 1884 in Gwinnett, Ga. Mrs. J. Q. Carpenter, age 70, died Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Leo Frizzell, north of Floydada. Mrs. Carpenter had been in failing health for some time and became alarmingly ill several weeks ago. Mrs. Carpenter was born in 1862 in Carrol County, Georgia, where she lived until 1891 when she moved to Fannin County, Texas. She was married to J. Q. Carpenter in 1884, seven years before coming to Texas. Deceased had been a resident of Floyd County for seventeen years, moving here in 1915. The major part of her residence here was spent in the Center Community in northeast Floyd County. Mrs. Carpenter and members of her family were well and favorably known in Floydada and other neighboring cities, all being actively engaged in business for a number of years. Many former friends and acquaintances both of Floyd County and former Fannin County people attended the funeral services Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church in Floydada Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. Brice of Plainview officiating, assisted by R. F. Bost of Dimmitt and Rev. J. Mat Harder of Ralls. Children surviving and families present for the funeral services were; Clifford Carpenter and family of Ralls, Boyd Carpenter and family of Ralls, Elam Carpenter and family of Oklahoma, Mrs. Marvin Jackson sand family of Plainview, Mrs. Fred Cone and family of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mrs. Leo Frizzell of Floydada and Claude Carpenter and family of Center. Another daughter, Mrs. Robert Greenway of Wolfe City, was unable to be present for the services. Dr. E. A. Hopkins, a brother of Miami, Texas, was not present for the services but was at the bedside during her recent illness. Other out-of-town friends and relatives present for the funeral were; Carl Jackson and family of Plainview, Grady Hall and family of Plainview, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Reynolds and family of Petersburg, Mrs. Winnie Childers of Tulia, and several others. Pallbearers at the funeral were; W. J. Rhodes, M. M. Meredith, Grady Hall, Gene Collins, and Walter Collins. Interment was made in the Floydada Cemetery with Lee Mayhew, of the F. C.
