He attended local schools and went on to attend the University of Kansas at Wichita, KS, the University of Missouri at Kansas City Law School and received his B.S. and his Masters Degree from Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College, now Truman State University at Kirksville, MO. Ted served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he fought on the front lines with the 7th Infantry Division. On September 29, 1955, Ted was united in marriage to Sherry Orr at Prairie Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, KS. They began their life together in Unionville, MO where Ted took his first job as teacher and coach. In 1958, they moved to Eagleville, MO, where Ted served the community as superintendent of schools. In 1960 he took a position with the American Book Company and moved to Lawrence, KS. They moved to Utica, MI in the early sixties for a short time, before settling in the Elburn area in 1968. Over the years, Ted held several publishing positions throughout the United States until 1985 when he began working as an independent consultant. Retiring in 1997, he devoted himself to his family, his garden and traveling. He was one of the founders of the Kaneland Athletic Boosters Club and was an active member of the Northern Illinois Educational Representative Association, as well as many other professional educational associations. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in his home town, Lemons, MO. Ted participated in and coached most every sport and enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate. In addition to his wife, Sherry, he is survived by three children: Lauri (Loren) Ludwig of Oswego, IL, Ron (Anna Peters) Lemen of Aurora, IL and Matt (Suzie) Lemen of Geneva, IL; four grandchildren: Ryan (Angie) Ludwig of Maryland Heights, MO, Kelly Rowan of Oswego, IL, Max and Abby Lemen of Geneva, IL; two sisters, Tee Ray of Wichita, KS and Joy (Wally) Beets of Salina, KS, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of friends.
