MERKEL (RNS) -- Mrs. O. B. Leach, 59, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday in Hendrick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Merkel with the Rev. Kenneth Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery here under direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. Born Edith Lillian Baker, Dec. 20, 1908, in Jones County, she moved with her parents to Merkel in 1918, and married O. B. Leach July 27, 1935. After a short stay in Oklahoma, she had made her home in Merkel and south Jones County since that time. Mr. Leach died Dec. 2, 1966. She was a longtime member of the Merkel Baptist Church and was an active member of the Merkel Chapter of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, William Richard of the home; one daughter, Mrs. B. L. Hodges of San Marcos; one brother, Fred A. Baker Jr. of Slaton. Pallbearers will be Booth Warren, W. S. J. Brown, Ed Sandusky, Herman Carson, Howard Carson, and Ernest Spurgin. (from The Abilene [Texas] Reporter-News, Tuesday, May 7, 1968)
