Bio

Minnie Urban was born to Joseph C. and Anna Mach Tuma on March 5, 1910, at Burwell. She was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at the Heritage Crossings in Geneva at the age of 93 years, ten months and nine days. She attended country school (Fort Hartstuff) in Burwell through the eighth grade. She was married to Jerry J. Urban on January 24, 1928 and to this marriage two sons and one daughter was born. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was well known for her delicious kolaches when she lived on the farm and in Milligan. She also enjoyed singing Czech songs while husband Jerry played the accordion at gatherings of friends and relatives. While at Heritage Crossings, Minnie was baptized by Pastor Green, on December 24, 1999. She was a member of the Milligan American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Tuma; husband , Jerry J. Urban; son, Eldon "Tiny" Urban; grandson Steven D. Urban; two brothers, Anton and William Tuma; two sisters, Agnes Oglesbe and Emma Urban; stepfather, Frank Bruha and step-brother, Richard Bruha. She is survived by her son, Donald Urban and wife, Connie; daughter, Loretta Bower ; half-sister, Betty Mrozeck and husband Leonard; grandchildren, James Urban and wife, Carol, Ronald Urban and wife Lisa, Michele Carey and husband David; step-grandchildren, Mark Hensley and wife, Ginger and Robin Hensley; great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Donnie, Carl Jimmy and wife Shannon; Ross, Andrea, Alicia and Alexa Carey , Michael and Kari; step-great-grandchildren, Rachael and Nathan Hensley; great-great-granddaughter, Brookelin Urban and Canyon Urban; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel in Milligan on Saturday, January 17, with Rev. Mark Zimpelmann officiating. Diane Zeleny accompanied Robert Kassik, who sang "Everyone Carries His Own Cross" in Czech, and "God Be with You Till We Meet Again." Casket bearers were Adolph Zumpfe, Richard Thompson, James Betka, Jim F. Kotas, Fred Stych and Roger Odvody. Honorary bearers were Dorothy Stych, Mary Uldrich, Carol Thompson, Joy Matejka and Dorothy Buzek.
