J. C. Synovec, son of Joseph F. and Carolina Salda Synovec, was born on a farm east of Wilber in Gage County, on March 11, 1898. He passed away at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend on March 27, 1980, at the age of 82 years and 16 days. He attended a rural school near his home. After learning the carpentry trade from his father, he spent the next years before his marriage building many farmsteads in the Saline and Gage county area. He graduated from auctioneering school in Kansas City. On February 13, 1923, he was united in marriage to Rose Urban. To this union were born one son, Milton and two daughters, Irene and Shirley (Mrs. Richard Brunkow). They made their home on a farm seven and three-fourths miles east of Milligan. He built a new home in 1951 in which they lived until his death. They had just celebrated their 57th anniversary in February. J.C. Synoveck was well known in the Fillmore and saline county area for his auctioneering. Along with his farming, he also continued his carpenter work and built several homes which included new homes for his son and daughter. He took great pride in his garden, his orchard and raising melons. He also kept bees, which provided most of the community with honey, especially during the days of sugar rationing. He remained actively engaged in farming until recently, when his grandson, Gene, farmed his ground; he still helped at every opportunity. He served as president of his rural school district for over 30 years. He was a member of the Milligan Farmer's Co-op Board for 12 years; nine of those as president. For two terms he served as County Commissioner of Saline County. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, whose willingness to help others will be a cherished memory. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Fred; two sisters, Emma Richtarik and Bessie; and one granddaughter, Kathy Brunkow. He is survived by his wife, Rose; a son, Milton and his wife, Harriet of Western; his daughters, Irene of Western and Shirley and husband Richard Brunkow of Milligan; seven grandchildren, Gene Synovec and wife Dorothy of Western, Carol and husband, Dr. Bruce Kennedy of Crete, Cindy and husband, Gary Kastanek of Tobias, Gale and husband, Curtis Zach of Wilber, Lois and husband, Ed Polhemus of Kearney, Alan Brunkow and wife, Debbie of Windsor, Col, and Jay C. Brunkow of Milligan. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Synovec of DeWitt and Stanley Synovec of Wilber; two sisters, Matilda Vleck and Henrietta Klasek of Wilber; and one sisterj-in-law, Annie Synovec of Milligan and by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Kotas Chapel at Milligan at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 1980, with Dr. David Kelly officiating. Robert Kassik sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Robert Zeleny at the organ. Pallbearers were Marvin Synovec, Ernest Synovec, Eldon Urban, Alvin Vicek, Milo Vlacek and Everett Wilkins. Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery at Milligan.
