Bio

d/o Tobias Albert Hudgens and Sarah Annie Hickman, married September 12, 1883 in Bell County, TX Married (1) Samuel K. Reynolds, about 1904 (2) Arthur Lee Crouch, Sr., December, 1913 in Tarrant County, TX From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram , Tuesday, January 31, 1978, p. 3D: Mrs. Maude Crouch, 93, who probably was downtown Fort Worth's oldest merchant, died Monday in a hospital here. For 74 years she operated a store at 109 N. Taylor that was identifiable only by a sign in the window which said, "Mrs. A. L. Crouch, Antiques and Book." It also had been her residence since August 1904 shortly after her first marriage to S. K. Reynolds. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and she claimed last summer to be only one of four living widows of Spanish-American War veterans. Her second husband was Arthur L. Crouch, who died in 1931. With 25 cents to her name, she returned to her shop to tend business and raise four children during the Great Depression. At various times during the decades since, she had operated a sewing shop, a photography shop, a used book store and an antique store -- all at 109 N. Taylor. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are two sons, former probate judge A. L. Crouch and Tipton F. Crouch, both of Fort Worth; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Thomas of Duncan. Okla., and Mrs. Thelma Jones of Rendon; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Harveson & Cole Funeral Home will announce arrangements.
