Bio

Nolen Jackson Dockery, Sr. , age 85 of Ennis, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011. A retired homebuilder and rancher, Nolen was born in Navarro County April 22, 1926 to Pierce and Myrtle Berryhill Dockery. He attended schools in Emhouse and Corsicana. Nolen served in the US Army as a PFC, a Combat Veteran in WW II in the Philippines from Sept 11, 1944 to Nov. 26, 1946. He worked in the cotton factory and for the Gas Company. Nolen married the deceased Doris Sharp Butler and received 3 wonderful children, Ronnie, Mickey and Beverly Butler. Then he married the deceased Floy Jean Harris Davis and added 2 more children Joellen and Tommy Davis. In 1967 he had his ‘special son' "Jack", together Nolen and Floy founded the Navarro County Association for Retarded Citizens. In 1988 he married Madelyn Becker Long and has enjoyed 3 more children Keith Long, Sheryn Harris and Sharmyn Foitek and now 15 grandchildren. Nolen was a member of St. John Catholic Church of Ennis, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and Golden Crusaders. Survivors include his son Jack, and wife, Madelyn as well sister-in–law Penney Dockery and her family.His parents and brothers, Leonard, Vernon, and Johnnie Dockery predeceased him. Pallbearers: Ron Butler, Mickey Butler, Michael Paschal, Keith Long, Garry Harris and James Foitek. Honorary Pallbearers: Nolen ‘Jack'son, Jr. and Lester Easley, Jim Williams, and Robert Boyd. In lieu of flowers please donate to, Holy Angels Residential Facility, 10450 Ellerbee Road, Shreveport, LA 71106; St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis,TN; or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Rosary at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Ennis. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at St. John Catholic Church in Ennis with Father John Dick as celebrant. Interment will be held at 2:30 P.M. at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas.
