☆~ VETERAN, KOREAN WAR (1950-1953) ~☆ David Neal "Ike" Jorges, 81 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, (formerly of Holdrege) passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln. Ike was born April 27, 1930 at Elwood, the son of Herman and Edith (Boss) Jorges. Ike received his education from Elwood Public Schools, graduating from Elwood High School with the class of 1949. In 1954 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Tilson of Elwood and to this union four children were born: Cindy, Marcy, David and Jennifer. Following his education, Ike served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from May 8, 1952 until his honorable discharge on May 7, 1954. After his service, Ike moved to Holdrege and began his career at Tri-County, where he served as superintendent of irrigation until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked at Pamida for over 20 years. Ike was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege, was an avid Husker fan, loved his years shooting blue rock and coaching and umpiring girls' softball games. Survivors include his children: Cindy McCormick and her husband, Craig of Holdrege, Marcy Overcash and her husband, Jim of Lincoln, David J. Jorges of Holdrege and Jennifer Jorges and her husband, Lateef Johnson of Lincoln; ten grandchildren: Faithe Kroll and her husband, Ryan, Olivia McInturf, Hudson, Cooper and Mary-Catherine Overcash, Molli and Sam Jorges, Ivy, Scout and Emerson Jorges; and had recently become a great-grandpa to Emma Grace Kroll. Ike was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Jack, Annette, Betty, JR, Ted and Buzz. Published in Kearney Hub on July 18, 2011
