Myrtie Stout of Pine Forest, Texas and Jim Thompson of Athens, Alabama, were both schoolteachers when they met near the Texas home where she was raised. They were wed February 3, 1902; she was 21 and he was 31 years old. The Thompsons established their household in Mt Pleasant, Titus County, Texas early in their marriage and lived there throughout the births of all nine of their children. After a short time in Naples, Texas in the late 1920s, the family moved to Minden, Louisiana in 1929. There the family moved several times within the community living on Constable Street, 624 Lewisville Rd, then further out Lewisville Road (by Turner Pond), 324 Pine Street when Myrtie passed away in 1936, and 441 McIntyre Street when Jim passed away in 1955. After starting a family, Myrtie remained a mother and homemaker. Jim's various occupations over the years included schoolteacher, piano/musical instrument salesman, Studebaker car dealer, real estate agent, insurance agent and Farm Bureau agent.
