Bio

Preparation was made in advance Date of Death: December 22, 2013 Mr. Burney Raymond "Ray" Young, age 91, of Nacogdoches was born October 11, 1922 near Big Springs, Texas to parents Burney A. Young and Goldie E. Young. The family later moved to Nacogdoches where Mr. Young graduated both High School and then Stephen F. Austin University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy for 3 1/2 years. After the war, he taught school for 4 years prior to his 30 year career working for the Social Security Administration where he retired from in 1982. Ray was a Deacon at First Baptist Church where he was a loyal and faithful servant to his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Reba Green Young; his two sons from his first marriage, James R. Young and wife, Petra, of Germany and Larry R. Young of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews along with a sister, Ann Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Garrard Young who preceded him on June 21, 1981, and three siblings, a brother James E. "Jimmy" Young, sister Minnie R. Rice and brother Robert J. Young.
