Wesley T. Mikel, age 73 of Ennis, Texas, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 21, 2010. He was born in Ennis, Texas, on June 21, 1937 to Josef and Anatasia (Zabojnik) Mikel. Wesley spent his early years helping his family on the farm. He graduated from St. John Catholic School in 1955. Wesley served in the United States Army. He was a proud Police Officer, badge 1612, with the Dallas Police Department from 1959 to 1992 where he was Officer of the Year in 1978. He served as an officer of the Knights of Columbus Council #1353. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly #2265 where he served as Color Corp Commander. Wesley was a founding commissioner of the Police Athletic League in Dallas and a member of the Firefighters Lake June Station 34. He loved his homestead in Ennis and died on the land where he was raised. He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, two step children, nine grandchildren, two sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and three sisters. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Rosary at 7 P.M. on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 25, 2010, at St. John Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis.
